7 years agoHouston Astros starter Lance McCullers overcame some early troubles to keep a Royals lineup at bay as the Astros won their 12th straight game 7-4 on Sunday. A throwing error by third baseman Alex Bregman put McCullers in a tight spot in the first inning that resulted in two unearned runs. But McCullers pitched sharply from then on, striking out nine hitters in six innings of work. This now makes it four straight quality starts for McCullers who has made it through six innings while allowing three runs or less in each of those starts. He has been able to shave down on the walks over the past month and now carries a serviceable WHIP of 1.20. On a team as gifted as Houston, McCullers (8-3) should be in line for plenty more opportunities to pick up wins moving forward after receiving a no-decision Sunday.--Joey C - RotoBaller
