4 years agoThe New York Mets have reportedly continued extension talks with shortstop Francisco Lindor, but there is no real movement by either side toward ultimately reaching a deal. Both Lindor and the Mets have stated that they will not negotiate after Opening Day. The industry expectation is that Lindor will command at least a 10-year deal in excess of $300 million. If a deal is not reached, it is certainly possible that Lindor could leave New York once his contract expires at the conclusion of the 2021 season when he hits free agency. Although Lindor had a down year in 2020 while slashing .258/.335/.415 with just eight home runs and 27 RBI, expectations are high for him in 2021 hitting in the potent Mets' lineup. The Mets would be well served to lock up Lindor sooner than later in order to guarantee they keep the All-Star shortstop playing in Queens for years to come.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
