Lourdes Gurriel Dazzles In Debut
7 years agoThe Toronto Blue Jays had one fantastic debut earlier this week when outfielder Teoscar Hernandez filled up the box score (and hasn’t dropped since). On Friday, they had another one with shortstop/second baseman Lourdes Gurriel. Gurriel finished 2-for-5 with three RBI and a strikeout in an 8-5 victory over the New York Yankees. Gurriel has been crushing it at Double-A this season, but he’s not a must-add right away. There are at least some indicators that what Gurriel was doing at Double-A was legitimate, but he was also vastly outperforming what he did in previous years boosted by a BABIP over .100 points higher than his career mark. Playing time could also be an issue here, as Toronto has a wealth of middle infielders. Keep an eye on him, though, as there’s undoubtedly a lot of talent here.
