6 years agoIt’s been two games since the Toronto Blue Jays recalled shortstop Lourdes Gurriel to the big club, but so far, so good. Gurriel picked up a hit on Monday against the Detroit Tigers in his return but took a step forward on Tuesday against the New York Mets by finishing 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. While it was a nice night for the 24-year-old, we wouldn’t expect much moving forward. In multiple stints in the big leagues this season, Gurriel is slashing a poor .225/.244/.388 with four home runs, eight runs scored and 11 RBI in 80 at-bats. Solid minor league numbers made Gurriel a somewhat popular add earlier in the season, but the intrigue here is all but gone unless he becomes more consistent.--John Smith
