Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Snaps Homerless Drought
4 years agoToronto Blue Jays outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. ended his season-long homerless skid during the team's 8-2 loss to the Nationals on Wednesday. He took Erick Fedde deep in the fifth inning for a solo shot as he finished the game going 1-for-3 with a walk. Gurriel has gotten off to a sluggish start to his 2021 campaign with an abysmal .197/.234/.254 slash line and a career-high 26.0% K-rate through 20 games. There's time for the 27-year-old to turn it around, but with Randal Grichuk swinging a hot stick, George Springer off the IL, and Teoscar Hernandez returning to action soon, Gurriel could get squeezed from the everyday lineup.
