Lourdes Gurriel Starting At Second Base
7 years agoAfter getting the call to the major leagues on Friday, Toronto Blue Jays shortstop/second baseman Lourdes Gurriel is in the starting lineup, hitting ninth and playing second base. He gets the start in place of Devon Travis, who is out of the lineup after fouling a ball off his left foot on Thursday. Gurriel is certainly generating a lot of buzz at the moment, but we caution you to temper your expectations. He may have been crushing it to the tune of a .347/.382/.510 slash line at Double-A this season, but it comes off the strength of a great .364 BABIP when his career figure prior to this season was at .246. He may very well carry his success over to the big leagues, but it’s far from a given.
