2 years agoHouston Texans head coach Lovie Smith confirmed that rookie running back Dameon Pierce will get the start in his NFL debut in Week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts. "He's earned an opportunity to lead us. It was asked, is he our starting running back? He's earned the right to line up there with the one's, the first snap and I'm anxious to see him play," Smith said. Pierce earned the starting gig by averaging 7.8 yards per carry with a touchdown in the preseason. The 22-year-old's fantasy stock has risen with the news, but it doesn't mean he'll be a no-brainer RB2 each and every week.
