Luis Castillo Strikes Out Season-High 11
3 years agoCincinnati Reds right-hander Luis Castillo set a season-high with 11 strikeouts in a 4-2 loss to the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday. The veteran right-hander went five innings in the start, allowing three runs and walking three. Castillo's previous season-high in strikeouts was seven, also set vs. the Giants during his start on April 13. His pitch velocity was well above his season averages on Tuesday, with his fastball averaging 97.7 MPH, up 1.5 MPH from usual. Castillo also posted an impressive 37% called strikes+whiffs rate in the start. It was a welcome sight for fantasy gamers rostering Castillo as he has really struggled this season. He now has a 1-6 record, 7.44 ERA, 1.80 WHIP, and 40 strikeouts in 42 1/3 innings of work.
