Luis Garcia To Remain The Starting Shortstop
2 years agoWashington Nationals shortstop Luis Garcia will continue to start at the 6, even though Alcides Escobar is back from the injured list. Escobar will move to a utility role and come off the bench moving forward, and he could sometimes even play the outfield. With Washington not in contention in 2022, the focus is on the development of young players like the 22-year-old Garcia. Escobar will join Ehire Adrianza as the utility players off the bench after the Nat released Dee Strange-Gordon. Not only are the Nationals focusing more on developing younger players, but Garcia gives them much more upside offensively, as he's slashing .342/.354/.481 with an .835 OPS, two home runs, 10 RBI and nine runs scored in his first 82 plate appearances this year in 20 games played.
