Luis Severino Lights Up Radar Gun In Rehab Outing

2 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Luis Severino (lat) touched 97.3 mph with his fastball on Friday in his first minor league rehab start for Low-A Tampa. Severino threw two scoreless innings and tossed 22 pitches, allowing one hit while striking out three and walking none. The Yankees are hoping he can return to their starting rotation in mid-September and factor into their playoff rotation. The 28-year-old will still need another rehab outing or two before he's ready to be reinstated from the injured list, but he's getting closer. In 16 starts for the Yanks in 2022, he's gone 5-3 with a 3.45 ERA (4.04 FIP), 1.07 WHIP, 95 strikeouts and 25 walks in 86 innings pitched.
