3 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Luis Severino pitched well in his first appearance of the 2021 season Tuesday against the Rangers. Severino entered the game in the eighth inning and helped lock down the Yankee victory, striking out a pair of batters while allowing just two hits. His fastball velocity was down a tick, but his stuff was impressive, as he generated five whiffs, three of them on the heater. The 27-year-old will likely operate as a long reliever out of the bullpen down the stretch, though manager Aaron Boone said that he's "not going to limit what Severino is capable of." He should still be able to provide solid ratios and strikeout numbers, even if he's not starting.--Tim Capurso
