7 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher Luke Gregerson (oblique) was able to play catch on Tuesday. Manager Mike Matheny said that Gregerson's next step should be a bullpen session, then a simulated game or even a return to a Grapefruit League game. Gregerson was seen as the favorite for the closer's role in St. Louis at the beginning of Spring Training, but his injury may have dropped him out of favor. General manager John Mozeliak recently said that if the season were to start today, Dominic Leone would be the closer. Granted, the season doesn't start today and Gregerson still has time to make up for lost work, but he's much less of a guarantee for the role now than he was before the injury. Leone's fantasy arrow is pointing up while Gregerson's is shooting straight down.--David A Marcillo - RotoBaller
