Luke Voit Increases Home Run Lead To Three

4 years agoNew York Yankees first baseman Luke Voit clubbed his 21st home run of the season on Sunday, widening his league-wide lead in home runs to three. Voit has been spectacular this season despite a nagging foot injury, and his performance has been well-supported by a .628 xSLG. Voit’s 27% HR:FB is probably unsustainable given that no qualified batter posted a HR:FB above 25% last season (even with the juiced ball), but Voit has improved his contact skills with a 13.3% swinging-strike rate, and his impressive performance appears to be mostly legitimate and sustainable. It doesn’t hurt that Voit has four games against the Blue Jays in Buffalo lined up to start this week, and that hitter-friendly environment should allow Voit to continue extending his home run lead.--Sam Chinitz
