Luke Weaver Dominant Over Five Scoreless Frames
6 years agoArizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Luke Weaver picked up a win in Thursday's Cactus League spring start against the San Francisco Giants, yielding just two singles and a double over five scoreless innings with no walks and four strikeouts. In three spring appearances he has a 1-0 record, 1.59 ERA and 10 strikeouts with a 0.97 WHIP over 11 1/3 innings. Obviously that's not much of a sample size, but he is a lock for a rotation spot in Arizona. That's exactly what the Snakes were hoping for grabbing him as part of the Paul Goldschmidt trade from St. Louis. Weaver is worth a look in NL-only fantasy leagues and some mixed play after recording 121 strikeouts over 136 1/3 innings. He could improve on that number in a full season in the desert.
