4 years agoArizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Luke Weaver was excellent in Monday's win over the Marlins. After being shelled for six runs by this very same Marlins team in his last outing, Weaver pitched 6 1/3 shutout innings, allowing just four hits while striking out six batters. The 27-year-old displayed some excellent swing-and-miss stuff, generating 15 whiffs, 14 of them on his fastball-changeup combo. Weaver has increased the spin rates on both his fastball and his changeup- and both offerings looked good Monday. Despite the positive outing, Weaver's 6.02 expected ERA and .533 expected slugging percentage loom large.--Tim Capurso
