MacKenzie Gore Annointed MLB Pipeline's Top Pitcher
5 years agoSan Diego Padres pitching prospect MacKenzie Gore was awarded MLB Pipeline’s Pitcher of the Year honors on Thursday. Baseball’s No. 3 prospect absolutely dominated High-A this season, registering a 1.02 ERA, 0.71 WHIP and 12.5 K/9 in 15 starts. After a late season promotion to Double-A, he rattled off a 4.15 ERA and 10.4 K/9 in 21 2/3 frames. The 20-year-old possesses a lively mid-90s heater, three plus complementary pitches and tantalizing strikeout upside. Although the Friars will take it slow with their prized prospect, the team will need to balance Gore’s development with the expectation to seriously contend in 2020. With a shaky big league rotation, Gore has a shot to crack the club next season. Keep him bookmarked as a premium dynasty option.
