Mallex Smith Swipes 23rd Bag
5 years agoSeattle Mariners outfielder Mallex Smith went 1-for-4 in Friday's loss to the Athletics, recording a single, stolen base, and a run scored in the contest. The theft was Smith's 23rd of the season as he's comfortably in second place in the majors in this category, five behind Royals shortstop Adalberto Mondesi. Since his early-season demotion to the minors, the speedster has improved every month in batting average swatting .250 in May, .274 in June, and now .313 in July so far. For the year, he's at an underwhelming .235, but he continues to score runs and steal bases making him valuable in all formats. A big second half could be in store for the 26-year-old if he continues to improve his numbers at the plate.
