7 years agoUpdating a previous report, there has been some clarity provided to the back end of the rotation for the start of the season for the Boston Red Sox. It remains clear that starting pitchers Chris Sale, David Price and Rick Porcello will start the first three regular season games against the Tampa Bay Rays. According to Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe, manager Alex Cora stated that Brian Johnson is indeed penciled in to start the fifth game of the season against the Marlins. The fourth start is a little more fluid and dynamic. Cora is keeping an open mind and will adjust his decision based on what is available at the time. He stated that Steven Wright (knee) has a 50-50 chance of taking the start and that Eduardo Rodriguez (knee) is less than 50 percent to start. Drew Pomeranz (forearm) is unlikely to start at this point. If Wright and Rodriguez are not ready, Cora will likely go with Hector Velazquez as the fourth starter against the Rays.--Ellis Canady - RotoBaller
