5 years agoSan Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado cracked a two-run homer Monday against the Kansas City Royals in his first spring training at-bat. He finished the day 1-for-3. Machado, one of the biggest free-agent acquisitions in 2019, was a relative disappointment last year with a modest 108 wRC+. Without distractions this offseason, the 27-year-old has reportedly welcomed the opportunity to refocus on his craft. Despite switching teams and leagues last season, Machado completed his fifth consecutive 30-plus home run campaign and is a prime bounce-back candidate.
