Manny Machado Strokes Grand Slam
5 years agoSan Diego Padres shortstop Manny Machado crushed a grand slam in Monday’s victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. Machado’s only hit of the contest capped a seven-run sixth inning and was his 10th long ball of the season. Machado has been steady in 2019 but not the superstar baseball fans are used to watching. Monday’s blast was his first homer since May 14 and only his third extra-base hit over that span. Overall, he’s slashing .251/.340/.423 with 59 runs-plus-RBI. With rookie shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. (hamstring) poised to return, Machado will likely slide back to his natural third base position. The entire Padres offense should receive a boost with Tatis back in the lineup.
