6 years agoNew York Jets free safety Marcus Maye (ankle) missed his second consecutive preseason game Thursday against the Washington Redskins. Safety Doug Middleton was tasked with replacing him in the starting lineup. In fact, 23 of the team's 90 players on the current roster were inactive due to injuries and/or other reasons. Offensive guard Brian Winters (abdomen) and offensive tackle Kelvin Beachum (foot) were also missing. Versatile OG/OT Brent Qvale started for Beachum. Offensive lineman Jonotthan Harrison made the start for Winters and was beaten badly on a sack in the first quarter. Return-man candidate Trenton Cannon was also in a ball cap and unavailable for the game. The biggest news is Maye's absence, as the defense needs him. And the offensive linemen need to get healthy and jell so franchise quarterback Sam Darnold doesn't have multiple grass stains to match the rest of the green on his uniform.--Daniel Dobish
