Mariners Will Wait Before Naming Opening Day Starter
7 years agoSeattle Mariners manager Scott Servais will wait a few more days before naming the team's Opening Day starter, per MLB.com. The season is almost a week away, but Servais wants to see how the candidates fare this weekend. Veteran starter Felix Hernandez, who is familiar with pitching Opening Day, is scheduled to pitch on Saturday against the Cubs. Last season's ace, James Paxton, is slated to pitch Sunday against the Padres, which would give Hernandez the inside edge to receive the nod. Barring Hernandez completely getting shelled on Saturday, he should be in line to get the ball to begin the season after missing most of spring training with a forearm contusion. There is a strong chance, however, that Paxton will prove to be the more attractive fantasy option in the long run this season.
