Mark Melancon First To 30 Saves
3 years agoSan Diego Padres relief pitcher Mark Melancon became the first reliever to reach the 30-save plateau this season on Friday, allowing just a single in his one inning of work against the Miami Marlins. He struck out one batter. That single is the only baserunner Melancon has allowed in his last three outings. For the year, Melancon has a 2.09 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 36 strikeouts in 43 innings. The strikeout rate does leave something to be desired, but Melancon has been more than good enough to earn his keep on rosters regardless.
