Marquez Valdes-Scantling Unlikely To Bounce Back In Week 12
6 years agoGreen Bay Packers rookie wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling has struggled over the past two weeks, averaging 3.5 receptions for 26 yards over that span. Those struggles are likely to continue when he plays a tough Minnesota Vikings pass defense in Week 12. Marquez Valdes-Scantling saw his profile rise earlier this year when he filled in for an injured Randall Cobb at wide receiver. When Cobb returned, Valdes-Scantling still took more snaps and saw more targets than Cobb. Cobb has missed the past two weeks and may return in Week 12, but Valdes-Scantling is likely to remain the No. 2 option regardless. Valdes-Scantling is a tall and fast wide receiver with solid hands. Where he has struggled lately has been with his route running and creating separation in man coverage. Valdes-Scantling was always going to be a boom-or-bust type of player, so his low production shouldn’t scare anyone off by itself. However, his struggles in creating separation should temper expectations going forward. Valdes-Scantling can be considered a low-end flex option in Week 12 who should be avoided if possible. He should not be rostered after the conclusion of bye weeks.
