Martin Perez Fires Five Scoreless Innings Against Rays
4 years agoBoston Red Sox starting pitcher Martin Perez earned his second victory of the season in Wednesday's 5-0 win against the Rays, as the left-hander tossed five scoreless innings to go along with four strikeouts and three walks surrendered. The 29-year-old received comfortable run support as infielder Michael Chavis hit a two-run shot to give the Red Sox a lead in the sixth inning — as part of his three-hit performance on the night, while outfielder Alex Verdugo hit his first home run of the season in the fourth inning off of starting pitcher Ryan Yarbrough. Perez allowed just four hits in the effective performance, bringing his record to 2-1 and an ERA of 3.45 through 15 2/3 innings within three starts this season. Perez is worth a look in deep AL-only formats as a solidified member of the Red Sox rotation, as he is set for a rematch against the same opponent in his next scheduled start against the Rays on Tuesday.
