4 years agoBoston Red Sox starting pitcher Martin Perez made his spring training debut on Tuesday against the Twins, allowing just one baserunner over two scoreless innings. Perez had what on the surface appeared to be the best season of his career in 2020, leading the Red Sox in innings while posting a 4.50 ERA. Yet a deeper dive into the numbers reveals Perez benefited from an extremely fortunate .267 BABIP, and his strikeout and walk rates actually were worse than his terrible 2019 season. Perez can be counted on to eat up innings and rack up a few wins, but fantasy managers should stay away from him if they are looking for anything more than pedestrian production.--Daniel Fox
