Matt Albers Blows Save But Gets Win Against Cardinals
7 years agoMilwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Matt Albers went two innings and gave up three hits, one earned run and got two strikeouts in the 5-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. Albers came in with a 4-3 lead in the ninth and gave up an outfield single, an infield single and a bunt single to three of the Cardinals hitters. Eventually, one of the runners scored on a sacrifice fly and Albers was hit with the blown save. Albers came out for the 10th inning and rolled through the top of the order for the Cardinals and got himself the victory. This may get Brewers manager Craig Counsell thinking twice before he puts Albers out in the ninth, however, Albers remains one of the best options for saves in the Brewers bullpen with Corey Knebel out for six weeks. Albers now has a 1.50 ERA in six innings pitched and is a great add for those desperate for saves.
