Matthew Allan Had Another Surgery In January
3 years agoNew York Mets top pitching prospect Matthew Allan (elbow), who had Tommy John surgery last May, had another operation to fix a nerve issue in his arm in January. Allan was the team's third-round pick in the 2019 MLB draft, and he posted a 2.61 ERA and 1.45 WHIP with 14 strikeouts and five walks in 10 1/3 innings over six outings (five starts) in his first professional season in 2019 with the Mets Rookie League affiliate and Low-A Brooklyn. Allan didn't pitch at all in the shortened 2020 season, and with his latest surgery, there's a chance that he misses all of the 2022 season as well. The 20-year-old probably won't be a realistic option to reach the majors until 2024, at the earliest. Allan generates easy mid-to-high 90s velocity with his fastball and is consistently around the plate with his curveball and changeup.
