4 years agoBoston Red Sox reliever Matt Barnes has carried the momentum from his dominant spring into the regular season, starting his season with three scoreless innings in which he has allowed just one base runner. Tuesday's outing in the Red Sox's 6-5 win over the Tampa Bay Rays was particularly impressive, as he threw two perfect innings in relief while navigating through the extra-inning, runner-on-second rule. Going back to spring training, Barnes has thrown 8 1/3 scoreless innings, striking out 13 and allowing just two hits. Barnes looks like he has regained his command after a shaky 2020 campaign, and he should be a top-tier reliever moving forward.--Daniel Fox
