2 years agoThe Boston Red Sox placed right-handed reliever Matt Barnes (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list on Wednesday with right shoulder inflammation and reinstated left-hander Matt Strahm from the COVID-19 injured list in a corresponding move. Barnes' injured list placement is retroactive to May 31. Ever since the second half of last year, Barnes has really struggled, and he's allowed 15 earned runs in 17 innings while recording two saves, striking out 14 and walking 12 in his 20 relief appearances for Boston this year. With the 31-year-old struggling, the Red Sox have had to turn to a closer-by-committee approach featuring Jake Diekman and John Schreiber.
