Matt Breida Stepping Into Lead Role
5 years agoSan Francisco 49ers running back Matt Breida should see the bulk of work in Week 2 in Tevin Coleman’s (ankle) absence. Breida handled 15 touches for a meager 37 yards in Week 1 but the entire offense logged a sluggish performance. Without Coleman, Breida should lead the Niners backfield against the Cincinnati Bengals. While the third-year back struggles after contact, he plays with a workhorse mentality and is tough as nails. With the Niners deploying a systematic rushing committee, he’ll likely handle at-most 60 percent of touches, with Raheem Mostert, Jeffery Wilson and Kyle Juszczyk sprinkled in. Despite sharing snaps, Breida is a backend RB2 with the offense expected to rebound in Week 2.
