Matt Corral Placed On Season-Ending Injured Reserve
2 years agoThe Carolina Panthers placed rookie quarterback Matt Corral (foot) on season-ending Injured Reserve on Tuesday because of his Lisfranc foot injury. He will undergo surgery on his foot. The team also placed cornerback Duke Dawson (undisclosed) on Injured Reserve. While it's disappointing for Corral's development in his rookie year, the 23-year-old likely wouldn't have played at all in 2021 behind both Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold. The third-round signal-caller will look to get fully healthy for training camp next year, where he'll be hoping to compete for a starting role. The Panthers recently named Mayfield their starter entering Week 1 of the regular season, but he'll need to play well in 2022 to hold off Darnold.
