Matt Harvey OK Enough In Spring Debut
7 years agoIf New York Mets starting pitcher Matt Harvey threw the minimum innings requirements in 2017, his ERA over the innings he did pitch would have been the worst of any starting pitcher in baseball. Expectations for Harvey in 2018 are low, but the scrutiny was still the same as he made his spring training debut against the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday. He allowed one run on two hits while striking out two and walking one. All in all, Harvey was solid. The surprising part here was his velocity; He topped out at 96 mph while hovering around 93-94 mph over 37 pitches across two innings. Given that this was his first start of the spring, there’s a good chance we see even better velocity out of Harvey as we go along. While Harvey’s projection shouldn’t change all that much, his arrow may not be pointing straight down as it once was.
