4 years agoMinnesota Twins starting pitcher Matt Shoemaker rebounded from one of the worst outings of his career in his last time out on Friday night in a win over the Tigers. Shoemaker pitched five shutout innings, allowing four hits and a pair of walks while fanning five batters en route to his second win of the season. The veteran righty earned a 30 percent CSW and four of his five putaway pitches were of the offspeed variety, as his slider and splitter were quite effective. Shoemaker's performance has to be put in perspective, given that the Tigers have one of the weaker lineups in baseball. Nevertheless, it was an impressive performance by the 34-year-old, but he'll get a considerably tougher matchup in his next start against the White Sox, who rank 10th in the league in OPS.--Tim Capurso
