5 years agoToronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Matt Shoemaker had a terrific first taste of spring action, striking out five batters in his 2 2/3 innings versus the Pirates on Monday. He allowed just one hit in his 32-pitch outing but promptly picked him off first base, ending any sort of threat. Shoemaker picked up right where he left off before losing his 2019 season to an ACL tear. He sported a crisp 1.57 ERA and 0.87 WHIP in five April starts last season, making him a player to monitor for the late rounds of drafts. If health cooperates for the 33-year-old, he could carry mixed-league value as a back-end fantasy starter.--Riley Mrack - RotoBaller
