4 years agoMinnesota Twins starting pitcher Matt Shoemaker bounced back on Wednesday despite being charged with his fifth loss of the season against the Chicago White Sox. Shoemaker lasted six innings, allowing a pair of runs on five hits while walking four and striking out two batters. The four free passes matched a season-high- and the veteran righty has just one start with no walks allowed, though he was still able to limit the damage to just two runs. Shoemaker's off-speed stuff was working well, as he induced a lot of ground balls, 12, and weak contact- as evidenced by his 85.4 MPH average exit velocity against. It wasn't a tremendous performance, but he was good enough to earn the win, which is a step in the right direction. Shoemaker could be in play as a streamer in his next start against the Orioles on May 24. Baltimore has posted a 25.1 percent strikeout rate on the road this season.--Tim Capurso
