3 years agoChicago Cubs starting pitcher Matt Swarmer threw a solid six innings against the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday, surrendering only one run on two hits, while striking out five and walking two. After an excellent start to his season in AAA, compiling a 2.08 ERA and 0.95 WHIP over 39 IP, he has thrown back-to-back quality starts to kick off his major league career. The biggest reason for this seems to be his slider, which generated a whopping 13 whiffs on 27 swings today. He will need to develop a third pitch if he wants to remain a starting pitcher, but for now his slider/4-seam combo is doing the trick. He is on track to face the New York Yankees in his next matchup, so he isn't the best streaming option for next week. Still, keep an eye on him.--Matt Garon - RotoBaller
