Matthew Boyd Promises Better Results After Rough Start
4 years agoDetroit Tigers left-handed pitcher Matthew Boyd has been hammered to begin the 2020 season, yielding Major League highs of 30 hits and 22 earned runs through his first four starts. Entering the season, fantasy owners were over the moon about an arm that struck out 238 batters in 185 ⅓ frames in 2019, but things have quickly deteriorated. There aren’t many heartening metrics for Boyd owners to revel in, but his xERA of 5.54 is vastly below his actual ERA of 10.24. Boyd spoke after Wednesday’s rocky start, promising that he would be better moving forward. While Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire has shown immense belief in Boyd as his No. 1 starter, it’s difficult to see a path forward in continuing to roster the southpaw with matchups against the White Sox, Indians, and Twins all on the horizon to wrap up August.
