Max Scherzer Could Start Sunday
5 years agoWashington Nationals starting pitcher Max Scherzer (back) could come off the injured list to make a start Sunday against the first-place Braves. Scherzer will throw a bullpen session Thursday according to manager Dave Martinez and will likely make a decision afterward based on how Scherzer feels. Scherzer, who hasn't pitched since July 6, has been his usual dominant self this season with a 2.30 ERA and 181 strikeouts across 129 1/3 innings. His FIP is even better at 2.01 and his 35.2 strikeout rate is a career-high. Even is Scherzer can't start this week, it sounds like the ace will be back sooner rather than later. If Scherzer can't go Sunday Anibal Sanchez is on regular rest to make the start.
