Max Scherzer Gives Up Four Solo Bombs Tuesday
4 years agoWashington Nationals starting pitcher Max Scherzer allowed four home runs in his season debut against the Atlanta Braves Tuesday. Fortunately for him, they were all solo shots and the only damage he allowed. Overall, he gave up four runs on five hits in six innings for a no-decision. On the plus side, he struck out nine without allowing a single walk. That K-BB ratio is promising for the 36-year-old ace who turns 37 in July. Tuesday featured the kind of WHIP and strikeout rates we've come to expect and, despite last year's 3.74 ERA and 1.38 WHIP, he is still a top starting pitcher in the game. His next opponent depends on how Washington sets up its rotation with a doubleheader Wednesday and off day Thursday, but will be on the road against either the Dodgers on Sunday or Cardinals on Monday.
