7 years agoWashington Nationals starting pitcher Max Scherzer struck out 15 Phillies batters in 6 1/3 innings on Sunday. Scherzer is the first pitcher in MLB history to strike out at least 15 batters in a start which lasted no longer than 6 1/3 innings. He has been possibly the best starting pitcher in baseball so far this season. He has won six of his eight starts, striking out 80 batters in 51 2/3 innings. His 1.79 ERA is fully supported by his peripheral stats, including a 2.02 FIP and 0.82 WHIP. He is a must-start stud every time out going forward.--Phil Goyette
