5 years agoWashington Nationals starting pitcher Max Scherzer (back) made 40 throws from 70 feet on Saturday, according to manager Dave Martinez. Scherzer has been on the injured list with an upper back strain since July 29, with the move being retroactive to July 26 so he is eligible to come off on Monday August 5. "He definitely wanted to ramp it up yesterday, and we told him: 'You're not quite there yet," said Martinez. It seems that the team is taking the precautionary route with their ace to ensure he doesn't wind up back on the IL again.--Steve Janik - RotoBaller
