6 years agoPittsburgh Pirates outfielder Melky Cabrera singled once and struck out twice in five at-bats during Wednesday's 7-2 victory over the Reds. He has now struck out three times in his last eight at-bats, which is kind of surprising as the 34-year-old had struck out just five times in his previous 62 at-bats. Cabrera, who is known for his ability to make contact, is currently averaging a strikeout every 8.2 at-bats or 11.5 percent of his plate appearances -- both of those stats are better than his career averages of 7.7 strikeouts per at-bat and 11.9 strikeout percentage. The 15th-year pro also has made the most of this ability to make contact, as he has compiled a .353 BABIP in 2019.--Daniel Benjamin
