6 years agoArizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Merrill Kelly allowed three earned runs, five hits and two walks with three strikeouts in a quality start and victory in Monday's 10-3 win against the San Diego Padres in his major league debut. He threw 58 of his 88 pitches for strikes. Kelly spent the past three seasons pitching in the KBO (South Korea), but it was uncertain how he would do against major-league hitters in his first game. He passed with flying colors. The 30-year-old will next face the Boston Red Sox on Sunday afternoon. Kelly is a decent NL-only option at this point, but mixed leaguers will want a bigger sample size before risking a roster spot on him.--Daniel Dobish
