4 years agoArizona Diamondbacks pitcher Merrill Kelly looked sharp on the mound Monday despite taking the loss against the Brewers. Kelly's only mistake of the day was a two-run homer in the first inning, as he finished with a line of five strikeouts, one hit, one walk and two runs allowed over two innings of work. Last year, Kelly bumped up his strikeout rate from 20.3 percent in 2019 to 23.2 percent while dropping his walk rate from 7.3 percent to 4.0 percent, but he was somewhat lucky on the mound, as his 2.59 ERA was significantly better than his 3.92 xERA. His value still remains as a late-round pick in deeper formats, but if he continues to show good strikeout numbers this spring, he could become an interesting late-round flyer.--Michael Grennell - RotoBaller
