6 years agoThe New York Mets have claimed right-handed pitcher Chris Beck off waivers from the Chicago White Sox, the team announced. Beck will join the Mets on the next stage of their road trip in Arizona on Thursday, but a corresponding move has not yet been announced. The 27-year-old hasn’t been that bad with a 4.18 ERA and one save across 14 appearances and 23 2/3 innings pitched in 2018 for the White Sox, but the underlying numbers tell a different story. A meager 6.08 K/9 coupled with a high 4.18 BB/9, 1.90 HR/9 and 86.2 percent left-on-base rate would indicate why his FIP sits at 6.02 and xFIP at 5.32. Beck figures to be just another bullpen arm for the Mets, there’s no fantasy relevance here.--John Smith
