Mets Leaning Bullpen Game Over Jacob deGrom On Sunday
3 years agoAccording to New York Mets beat reporter Mike Puma, the team is leaning toward a bullpen game on Sunday against the Pirates, in lieu of starting pitcher Jacob deGrom getting the nod. Despite leaning in that direction, though, deGrom will reportedly still be given the opportunity to pitch if he wishes to do so on Sunday. deGrom last started on Wednesday, so if he does pitch on Sunday it would be on short rest just prior to the All-Star break. Since deGrom does not plan to pitch in the All-Star game on Tuesday, and because he threw only 85 pitches on Wednesday, deGrom could feasibly log some innings against the Pirates. Because deGrom is unlikely to throw a regular workload (if he does opt to pitch), he is not a recommended DFS play for Sunday's slate. He should, however, remain active in all other seasonal formats for his elite strikeout and ratio potential, despite being unlikely to record enough innings to pick up a win and/or quality start.
