Mets May Consider Replacing Matt Harvey
7 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Jason Vargas is nearing his return (and Mets debut) from an injury to his non-pitching hand, which means someone from their current starting rotation needs to be bounced. The thought has been that Zack Wheeler would be the displaced pitcher, considering he only re-entered the rotation due to Vargas’ injury. With Wheeler performing better than expected and Matt Harvey continuing to struggle, however, the Mets are reportedly considering rolling with Wheeler instead. Wheeler wasn’t as dominant against the Washington Nationals on Tuesday as he was in his first start against the Miami Marlins, but he looked good overall en route to another quality start. Harvey, meanwhile, has had two poor starts in a row and currently owns a 4.80 ERA. Each will likely have one more start prior to Vargas’ return, giving the Mets a little more time to evaluate them.
