7 years agoAccording to Mike Puma of the New York Post, the New York Mets are “showing interest” in free-agent outfielder/third baseman Jose Bautista. The 37-year-old Bautista was of course just released by the Atlanta Braves on Saturday after posting a completely unproductive .143/.250/.343 slash line. He did have two home runs across 40 plate appearances, but that wasn’t enough to keep him rostered. It’s not a completely illogical move for the Mets. Their outfield depth is weak with Yoenis Cespedes (hip) out for at least a little while longer, and Juan Lagares is done for the year with a toe injury. Third baseman Todd Frazier is also on the disabled list with a sore left hamstring, but he seems likely to be back soon. Even if the Mets do sign Bautista, there would be very little fantasy value here.--John Smith
