Mets Sign Taijuan Walker
4 years agoThe New York Mets have signed right-handed starting pitcher Taijuan Walker to a deal. The terms of the contract have not yet been disclosed. In 2020, over 11 starts and 53 1/3 innings pitched between the Mariners and Blue Jays, Walker posted a 2.70 ERA, a 1.16 WHIP, and a 50:19 K:BB. For his career, the 28-year old has a 3.84 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in eight seasons with Seattle, Arizona, and Toronto. Notably, Walker has been limited to just 67 1/3 IP over the last three seasons due to a torn ulnar collateral ligament of the elbow suffered in 2018 and resulting Tommy John surgery. Walker will likely slot into the Mets' starting rotation behind Marcus Stroman as their fourth starter and should remain in the rotation when Noah Syndergaard (elbow) returns to action mid-season. If healthy, Walker could provide managers with season-long fantasy value as a back-end starter in N.L.-only and mixed league rotations.
